Project delivery team first to take course in project management development
(Construction Sounds)
With any project the Norfolk District tackles a project delivery team is formed with employees from differing technical expertise.
Heading up the team is generally a project manager who has the overall responsibility to keep the project on time, on budget and bring it to completion while keeping the end user informed and happy.
In order to bring a better awareness of the role of a project manager and to get employees speaking the same language, a project management development course has been created.
Bill Sorrentino The purpose of the conference is to raise the awareness of Project Management within the district by getting a group of project delivery team members together and teach them the basics of good project management.
One of the other goals is to put the project managers on the same page so that the procedures are systematic and not just done haphazardly
George Mears “I think how each individual has done it in the past has been kind of driving the wagon in all different directions this seems to be putting us on the right track.”
A right track that utilizes best business practices
Bill Sorrentino – “With those best business practices putting them in place back at Norfolk District will improve our overall project delivery.”
More courses are planned in the coming months for other PDT members to ensure that the entire district is on the same understanding.
Plans are also in the works to open the course up to the entire North Atlantic Division, making it one of the first divisions in the Corps of Engineers to implement project management training of this nature.
Bill Sorrentino “It allows us to change the way we do business to improve our end product.”
A goal that could eventually go Corps wide, For the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District, Patrick Bloodgood, Downtown Norfolk.
