Is it hard to get into management in training at Wal-Mart? And what does a trainee do?
I am a business management (business administration) major in college, and am about a year from graduation.
I have been working at Wal-Mart for nearly 18 months. I recently decided that I have a strong interest in becoming management at Wal-Mart.
I have two years of accumulated college credits, and have been in my current position for six months. Those are the two requirements for being eligible (as a set, there are other ways to go about it).
How hard is it to get in to the program? How much do they make? What does a trainee do? I know attendance will be taken into consideration, but I have missed some days due to my daughters health conditions. Any insight would be helpful.
Each business region usually has “management training class” interviews every three or six months depending on need by the stores in the region.
Talk to your own department’s assistant manager at your store or the Personnel Director.
You will need to have completed the self assessment test on their internal computer system with a passing grade within the past twelve months and have all your computer training (CBL’s) up to date to be eligible to be interviewed.
The actual training is 12 weeks, and part of that will be at other stores following a current assistant manager around.
Special note: if you make it through the class, be prepared to be TRANSFERRED to another store almost immediately.
It is extremely rare that a new assistant manager stays at the same store.
